A delegation from the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC), led by State President Deepak Baij, met Governor Ramen Deka at Raj Bhavan Raipur on Thursday to express their concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation and increasing crimes against women in State. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the CPCC alleged that the current BJP government has failed to maintain law and order. They accused the government of misusing its machinery against the Opposition Congress party and failing to address issues like the damage to Jaitkham by the Satnami Samaj and the Balodabazar Collectorate fire incident. The delegation highlighted the increasing number of crimes against women under the BJP rule, emphasising that women in the state feel unsafe. They also criticised the Government’s alleged protection of sand mafia, liquor peddlers, and other criminal elements. The memorandum pointed to a rise in chain-snatching, robbery, stabbing, and other crimes, often attributed to the presence of inter-state gangs.

The Congress party accused the government of registering fake FIRs against Congress leaders and workers as political vendettas to hide its failures. The delegation demanded the Governor to take immediate measures to improve law and order in State. They requested for an inquiry committee headed by a sitting Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court or the CBI to investigate the Balodabazar incident. Former Ministers Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Amitesh Shukla, Satyanarayan Sharma, former MLAs Dhanendra Sahu, CPCC In-charge General Secretary Malkit Singh Gaindu, State Congress Media Chief Sushil Anand Shukla, Mayor Aijaz Dhebar, Subodh Haritwal, and other Congress leaders were part of the delegation.
