PRAISING Shashank Manohar, former BCCI and ICC Chairman and Prashant Vaidya, former India pacer and Chairman of Cricket Development Committee of VCA, for providing platform and infrastructure to Vidarbha players, ex-India spinner Rajesh Chauhan said that it is because of the two that Vidarbha team is performing well in domestic tournaments and Ranji Trophy.
Chauhan was speaking during the annual awards function of Nagpur Cricket Academy (NCA), where 48 players who represented VCA in different age categories, were feted.
“All credit to Adv Manohar and Vaidya for Vidarbha’s rise in the domestic competitions. They have provided the platform and infrastructures to the players which helped the cricketers in their overall development,” said Chauhan.
To Vidarbha cricketers who won titles, Chauhan advised them that they should treat this as only achievements and not success. “Success will be achieved when you don India colours and play Test cricket which is the real cricket,” advised Chauhan.
Vaidya advised parents not to involve too much in their wards’ cricketing journey. “Parents should leave the job of selection to the selectors as they (selectors) know whom to pick for the betterment of the team,” said Vaidya.
“Nowadays, parents are getting too much involved in their kids’ cricketing journey. They compare their son’s performance with other players. My request is to let the kid play freely and let the selectors do their job.
“Selectors pick players not on the basis of batting or bowling performance in one or two matches. There are lot of other aspects taken into consideration. For example, if ‘A’ player has scored 19 and ‘B’ 20 runs and the one who has scored 19 is picked, then selectors have imposed faith in the B players’ ability. Many other aspects are also taken into consideration and looking into future prospect,” Vaidya elaborated. He also congratulated Madhav Bakre, Director of NCA, for providing facilities to cricketers and producing champion teams.
Bakre informed that his age group teams (boys and girls) have won almost all the titles last season and will aim to continue same in coming season.
VCA Vice-President Dr Avinash Deshmukh advised cricketers to work hard and take proper diet to achieve
success.
