Nagpur to witness persistent rains till September 11: IMD

City recorded heavy rainfall in last 48 hrs causing power-cuts, water-logging in many areas
 
In last 36 hours, Nagpur saw 44.5 mm, Akola recorded 61.2 mm, Buldhana followed with 60.3 mm rains 
 
After poor monsoon rains in August, the Southwest Monsoon reactivated in entire Vidarbha from the beginning of September. India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that monsoon rains will continue in Vidarbha at least till September 11. Nagpur witnessed heavy downpour with thunderstorm and gusty winds in the wee hours of Monday that caused water-logging everywhere in city. Again in the evening, another spell of heavy rains took place that caused power cuts and water-logging on city roads.
 
Due to water-logged roads, the traffic moved on snail ‘s speed everywhere for more than an hour. The weather experts predicted that rains will take place almost daily till September 11 in Vidarbha as well as in Nagpur district. In the last 36 hours, Nagpur witnessed 44.5 mm rainfall, whereas Akola recorded the highest 61.2 mm rainfall in last 36 hours in Vidarbha followed by Buldhana (60.3 mm), Yavatmal (48.2 mm), Washim (48 mm), Bhandara (26 mm), Amravati (23.6 mm), Gadchiroli (10 mm), Bramhapuri (2 mm), Gondia (1.8 mm). In the last 48 hours, the heavy rain in Nagpur was accompanied with severe lightning activities which caused power outages at many places in the city. The weather department advised to be in safe place during lightning to avoid any kind of loss.
 
Due to heavy rains in last 48 hours in Vidarbha, the maximum temperature everywhere took a dip by 2-3 degrees Celsius. After rains in Buldhana, the maximum temperature recorded was just 25.6 degrees Celsius which was the lowest maximum temperature in all over Vidarbha. The minimum temperature of Buldhana was 23C on Monday which was just 2.6C less than Buldhana’s maximum temperature. Akola (28.5C), Amravati (29.2 C), Gadchiroli (29.0C) and Washim (26C) witnessed the maximum temperature below 30C on Monday. Despite heavy rains, Nagpur witnessed maximum temperature above 30 degrees Celsius. With 33.9C, Bramhapuri was hottest in Vidarbha as the district witnessed only 2 mm rainfall.
