Police Station on Wednesday evening after members of the Congress party, led by Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) President Deepak Baij, staged a sit-in protest (dharna) demanding an FIR against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members following a violent clash with National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) activists at Raipur’s Government Science College, here other day.
The protest gained momentum as senior Congress leaders and a large number of party workers gathered, pressuring the police to take swift action against the ABVP members involved in the alleged assault on NSUI workers. The FIR was filed after hours of intense protest by Congress.
According to police sources, the FIR was registered under Section 296 351(2), Section 115(2) and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which amounts to criminal charges of assault or use of criminal force during the clash, incitement or abetment of the incident.
