Jabalpur police have succeeded in retrieving stolen jewellery worth Rs 11.50 lakh from Nandura in Maharashtra and started a rigorous search for the two absconding accused. The accused have been identified as Amjad Ali alias Sultan alias Gabbar Ali alias Bheeru Irani (45), son of Manhar Ali Irani, resident of Anwar Colony, Ward No. 1, behind Railway Station, Nandura in Maharashtra and Chinna alias Mohammad Ali (40), son of Siraj Ali Irani, resident of School No. 3, in front of Imambada, Raza Chowk in Bhusawal.
Additional SP (Crime) Pradeep Kumar Shende disclosed this while addressing a press conference, on Wednesday. He informed that on January 18, 2025, at Cantonment Police Station, Vinay Kumari Tatiya (79), resident of APR Colony, Katanga Sadar, lodged a complaint that she went for morning walk when two men stopped her and one of them touched her feet and introduced himself as a police officer on duty to ensure people’s safety.
He advised her to remove her jewellery for security reasons.
She removed her four gold bangles and a gold mangalsutra and held them in her hand. At that moment, the man took her gold jewellery and handed her a packet containing fake brass bangles, claiming they were her jewellery and both unidentified men escaped from the spot on a motorcycle.
On the same day, at Kotwali Police Station, Jyoti Jain (57), resident of Deori, Sagar, currently staying at Sandhya Traders, reported a similar incident in which she removed her two old gold bangles, a gold chain and two rings and placed them on a piece of paper provided by the accused.
On the complaints, police have registered separate cases number Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of BNS. Superintendent of Police, Sampat Upadhyay (IPS) constituted a team under the supervision of Additional SP (City), Anand Kaladagi (IPS), Additional SP, Samar Verma and Additional SP (Crime), Pradeep Kumar Shende and CSP Cantt/DSP Crime, Udaybhan Bagri and CSP Kotwali, Ritesh Kumar Shiv, formed special teams from Crime Branch, Cantt Police Station and Kotwali Police Station to track the suspects. Investigations revealed that the suspects were heading towards Seoni, prompting the police team to move there.
Further intelligence suggested they were travelling towards Nandura-Bhusawal, Maharashtra.
The team reached Nandura Police Station, Maharashtra and identified one of the suspects as Bheeru Irani, known for his habit of impersonating a police officer to commit fraud.
A raid was conducted at Bheeru Irani’s hideout, where his father, Manhar Ali Irani, identified the man in the photographs as his son, Amjad Ali alias Bheeru and his accomplice as Chinna alias Mohammad Ali.
During search, police team found a plastic packet containing four gold bangles, two gold broad bangle (bracelets), one mangalsutra, one gold chain and two gold rings. The jewellery matched with the stolen jewellery weighing around 140.50 grams worth Rs 11.5 lakh while a search is underway to apprehend the accused.
