A wave of panic swept through St Gabriel School on Tuesday morning after the school administration received a bomb threat via email. The school authorities evacuated all students and staff as a precautionary measure and immediately informed the police.
Receiving the alert, a team from the Ranjhi Police Station, led by SHO Manas Dwivedi, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and dog squad rushed to the spot. After a thorough search of the premises, no explosive was found and officials confirmed it was a hoax.
According to the police, the threat was received at around 10.40 am when the school principal, while in his office, opened an email from an individual named Prabhakar.
The email claimed that a bomb had been planted on the premises and could detonate at any moment. At the time, nearly 1,000 students from grades 6 to 8 were present, appearing for their final exams.
In response to the bomb threat, authorities also decided to shut down the nearby St Joseph School as a precautionary measure. Additional SP (Rural) Suryakant Sharma informed that police, in coordination with the BDDS and dog squad, conducted an extensive search of the school premises. Investigations are now underway with the assistance of the Cyber Cell to trace the source of the hoax and identify the perpetrator.
