During the summer season, electricity bills often increase due to the use of essential appliances and lack of proper maintenance. As the temperature rises, the usage of air conditioners (AC), coolers, and fans also increases. To prevent a surge in electricity bills, the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Distribution Company has suggested some effective tips.
For those using air conditioners, it is recommended to set the AC temperature at 27°C. Lowering the temperature forces the AC compressor to work harder, leading to longer operating hours and increased electricity consumption. It’s better to use a fan along with the AC to enhance cooling efficiency. Regularly clean the AC air filter every 10-15 days to ensure proper airflow, as a dusty filter reduces cooling and forces the AC to run longer. Additionally, keep windows and doors closed while the AC is running. If there are gaps in the windows or doors, seal them with materials like thermocol.

For cooler users, it’s essential to ensure that the room has proper ventilation for the air to flow out as much as it is blown in by the cooler. If the cooler pads are worn out, replace them. Also, get the fan and pump greased and check the condenser regularly. Replace old regulators with electronic regulators to save electricity.
When using fans, make sure to get all the fans serviced at home. Replace any damaged components like the condenser or bearings immediately. It’s also advisable to use electronic regulators with fans.
For refrigerators, take precautions before the summer starts by getting the appliance checked. Avoid opening the fridge door repeatedly as this requires the compressor to work harder to maintain the temperature, leading to higher electricity consumption. Additionally, do not place hot food or milk directly
into the refrigerator as it forces the compressor to stay on
longer, increasing the
electricity bill.
