A young man was killed and
five others were injured seriously when a speeding car hit a scooter and then crashed into a traffic signal pole in Somalwada area on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Rishikesh Ramesh Nitnaware (26), from Milind Nagar, Khamla. He worked at a car washing centre. The injured persons are Shekhar Deepakrao Shirbhate (35), from Sneh Nagar; Rohit Vijay Sitapure (24), from Khamla; Kunal Yogesh Jadhav (24); Sushant Ramchandra Kinkar (19); and Ankush Pramod Kalbande (21). Shekhar is a
delivery boy, while the others
are students.
According to police, the accident occurred around 10.15 pm at Somalwada Square when a group of five was heading to a restaurant on Wardha Road for dinner.
Rohit was driving the car (MH-40/AC-6144). He sped up as they passed through Chhatrapati Square towards Somalwada Square. Rohit lost control of the car and hit a scooter being ridden by Chetan Ramesh Digraskar and Shekhar. Shekhar sustained injuries.
The car then crashed into a traffic signal. All occupants in the car sustained injuries in the accident.
Passersby rushed the injured to a hospital. Doctors confirmed Rishikesh’s death. Sonegaon Police have registered a case and are investigating the accident.
A police official said that Rohit had already hit three to four two-wheelers between Chhatrapati Square and Somalwada Square. Following the crashes, he became scared and lost control of the car and hit the scooter from rear resulting in death of Rishikesh.
