An ASI was killed while ten police personnel, including a TI and a Tehsildar, were critically injured in an attack on police team by a group of tribal community at Gadra village under the jurisdiction of Shahpur police station area of Mauganj district, on Saturday evening. Six accused have also been arrested in this connection. The situation in the village is tense but under control.
As per details, the police team had gone to village Gadra to save a youth named Sunny Dwivedi held captive by a tribal family of the same village. When the police reached the spot, they found the youth dead in the captivity of the accused.
The accused family members then attacked the police team. In this attack ASI Ramcharan Gautam was killed while TI Sandeep Bharti has sustained critical head injuries and Tehisldar Kumare Lal Panka has sustained critical injuries on his hand and leg. Eight other police personnel were also injured in the attack.
SDOP Ankita Shulkya and SI Bharti Verma locked themselves in a room in the village to save themselves from the unruly mob. Then extra police force reached the village. Police entered the locality by firing in the air and rescued the police officers and employees. The body of deceased youth Sunny Dwivedi was also brought out by the police.
SHO, Shahpur police station Sandep Bharti, Tehsildar Kumare Lal Panka, ASI Jawahar Singh Yadav, Ram Kewat, Ram Lakhan Mishra, have been referred to Rewa.
The deceased police officer ASI Ramcharan Gautam was from 25th Battalion, Bhopal. He was native of Pawaiya village of Satna district. He was due for retirement after eight months.
Section 163 has been imposed in the village and police force has been deployed.
Villagers informed that this incident is a result of the dispute occurred two months ago. As per information, two months ago, Ashok Kumar Adivasi died in road accident and his family members had held Sunny Dwivedi for this incident. Villagers informed that Ashok Adivasi had purchased land and Dwivedi family was not happy with it. Two months ago when he was going to Hanumana for registry of his land, while returning he died in a road accident and since then his family had alleged Sunny of killing their son.
On Saturday around 4 pm, Sunny Dwivedi was roaming in village when this family caught hold of him. They locked him in a room and thrashed him brutally. The other villagers informed his family.
They informed police, till then some 250 persons of the tribal community of the village gathered and attacked the police team which went to rescue the captive youth.
His father, who is Veterinary doctor and brother Rohan is computer operator, informed that they went to save their son but even they were thrashed.
Police force from Sidhi and Satna have been sent to the area to maintain law and order. After rescue, police officers, employees were brought to Civil Hospital at Mauganj where ASI Ramcharan Gautam died during treatment.
The accused family members were angry when police team forcefully opened the room in which Sunny was held captive. The police saw him lying dead. Then the family members and their community members attacked police with stone and sticks.
Police have arrested six accused and situation is tense but under control in village Gadra. The last rites of deceased Sunny Dwivedi was performed in village amidst presence of police force.
Senior officials, including the DIG Rewa and SP Mauganj, reached the spot to bring the situation under control.

The mortal remains of ASI Ramcharan Gautam, who laid down his life on duty, were consigned to flames with full State honours, at his native village at Pawaiya village, Satna district, on Sunday afternoon.
The mortal remains of martyred ASI reached his native village in afternoon. Then a host of senior officers, public representatives paid their last respects and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
The ASI is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters. A pall of gloom spread in village after news of ASI Gautam reached village last night. Villagers gathered at the house of martyr police officer.
Late Ramcharan Gautam, joined police force in 1984 as constable. At present he was posted at Shahpur. He laid
down his life in Gadra village when he and his team was attacked by unruly group of
villagers at Gadra village, Mauganj district.

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of ASI Ramcharan Gautam, who lost his life in an attack on a police team that had reached Gadra village in Shahpur police station area of Mauganj district following reports of a dispute between two groups.
The Chief Minister extended his condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the State Government.
Dr Yadav has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to visit the site and oversee the situation personally. He has also ordered strict action against all those responsible for this tragic and inhuman incident.
Dr Yadav has also announced that ASI (25th Battalion) Ramcharan Gautam, who sacrified his life in the line of duty, will be honoured with the status of a martyr. He stated that the family of late ASI Gautam will receive financial assistance of Rs one crore.
Chief Minister Dr Yadav said his eligible heir will be provided Government employment as a mark of respect for his sacrifice.
