The second round of the pilot phase of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has been launched, offering over 100,000 internship opportunities to Indian youth across 730 districts. The deadline for the application has been extended to March 31, 2025, providing ample time for eligible candidates to apply. The PMIS, a key initiative from the Union Budget 2024-25, aims to empower one crore young individuals aged 21-24 over the next five years. Implemented by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and managed by the Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS) cadre, with the Regional Directorate-Northwestern playing a pivotal role, scheme offers a 12-month paid internship in leading Indian companies. Targeting young individuals not currently engaged in full-time education or employment, the PMIS provides a unique platform for practical experience and career development. The scheme is designed to contribute to India’s vision of becoming the “Skill Capital of the World.”

The PMIS offers a comprehensive package designed to enhance the professional development of young participants. Throughout the 12-month internship, individuals will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000, providing consistent financial support. A one-time grant of Rs. 6,000 is allocated to cover incidental expenses. Crucially, the scheme guarantees a minimum of six months of practical, hands-on professional experience, equipping interns with valuable skills and insights. Upon completion, participants will be awarded an internship certificate from one of the top 300 companies in India. Furthermore, the PMIS facilitates valuable exposure to leading Indian companies, promoting a deeper understanding of the corporate environment and industry practices. Following the overwhelming response of over 600,000 applications in Round 1, Round 2 offers expanded opportunities with applicants allowed to select up to three internships across India. Chhattisgarh alone boasts 3,399 internship positions offered by leading companies. “Chhattisgarh has a wealth of talent, and the PMIS offers a golden opportunity for our youth to gain invaluable experience,” stated M K Sahu, Regional Director-Northwestern.

“We have been actively conducting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns across the state to raise awareness and encourage participation.” Prominent companies such as Jindal Steel & Power Limited, South Eastern Coalfields Limited, NMDC Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., and NTPC Limited are offering internships in Chhattisgarh during this round. Ankita Lahoty, Deputy Director, Regional Director-Northwestern, urged eligible candidates to register and apply through the official PMIS portal: https://pminternship.mca.gov.in/. “This is a fantastic opportunity for young individuals to shape their future and contribute to India’s growth,” she emphasised.
