RAIPUR/KHAIRAGARH,
The Chhattisgarh Forest Department is implementing a modern approach to forest identification and conservation by installing high-tech pillars equipped with QR codes. These towers, replacing traditional stone markers, will provide comprehensive digital information about forest areas.
This initiative aims to modernise forest boundary identification, enhancing accessibility and durability while bolstering conservation efforts. The integration of digital technology will improve forest boundary management and promote public awareness about ecosystem preservation. Informing about the new towers, a local journalist, Amit Pandey told the Hitavada that the traditional stone pillars offered limited information.
he new high-tech towers, featuring QR codes, allow users to access detailed forest information via smartphone scans, including forest name, boundaries, area, vegetation, wildlife, and key data. The Forest Department states this digital document, a two-page file, will facilitate understanding of forest ecology and administration for officials, researchers, tourists, and locals. This modern solution aims to strengthen forest monitoring and management. The towers are constructed with high-quality materials, including 6mm and 8mm TMT rods and a 1:3:6 concrete mixtures, designed to last 40 to 50 years, potentially extending to a century with proper maintenance. This represents a significant improvement over stone markers that deteriorate within 3-4 years. The towers’ enhanced durability will reduce maintenance costs and ensure project sustainability.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Alok Tiwari explained that the digital towers will aid in safeguarding forest resources. Accurate digital information will simplify boundary identification and monitor illegal activities like encroachment, deforestation, and poaching. “Integrating technology ensures precise and accessible forest boundary identification, enhancing our ability to monitor and address threats,” Tiwari stated. The initiative aims to engage the public in conservation. Tourists, researchers, and residents can access detailed for est information via QR codes, fostering a deeper connection with nature and promoting environmental awareness. Visitors can learn about local flora and fauna, while researchers benefit from reliable data for improved forest management.
The QR code towers will increase public participation in environmental protection. Easy access to forest information encourages active interest in resource preservation. The Forest Department believes this innovative approach will set a new standard for forest conservation nationwide, combining robust infrastructure with digital integration to promote environmental responsibility. The high-tech towers align with sustainable development goals by emphasizing biodiversity preservation and deforestation prevention. This initiative is expected to inspire similar efforts, modernizing forest management. With these digital towers, Chhattisgarh’s Forest Department advances forest conservation, balancing development with environmental protection to ensure the state’s forests thrive for future generations.
