Vehicle-owners may feel relieved for three more months as the Maharashtra Government has extended the deadline for installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) from April 30 to June 30, 2025. The centres whom the work of installing HSRP has been alloted to are experiencing meek response from the people. Considering it, the Transport Department has decided to extend the date. At first, the deadline was March 31, 2025. The date was extended to April 30, 2025 citing the reason that the department aimed to prevent a last-minute rush and ensure a smoother process for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. In the new circular, the department has admitted that majority people are not responding as expected.

The top officer of the department, on condition of anonymity, told ‘The Hitavada’, “We admit that we did not expect such a lacklustre response from the people. Now we have decided to further spread the awareness for HSRP, its benefits in future, its importance and all. Secondly, we want that people should make up their minds so that there would be no difficulties to be faced by the vehicle owners.” Several vehicle owners experienced challenges during HSRPs online application. Many faced the problems of slow website performance, some people failed to understand the process. The HSRP aimed to provide tamper-proof registration plate with a unique identification number, to enhance vehicle security.
