Central Ordnance Depot (COD), Jabalpur, is a very important military logistical establishment which comes under the aegis of Headquarters Madhya Bharat Area. This Ordnance Depot fulfills the needs of the Indian Armed Forces for storage of logistics, arms and ammunition and provides supply of military equipments.
Among these major military weapons, 7.62 mm Self Loaded Rifle (SLR) has also been an important weapon of the Indian Army, which has been used as main and effective military weapon for more than three decades. Advent of INSAS 5.56 mm rifle saw this legendary weapon being withdrawn from active service use. The Central Ordnance Depot (COD) in Jabalpur has undertaken a rigorous effort to identify and refurbish salvageable Self Loading Rifles (SLRs) to bolster the armoury of various police services. After issuing SLRs to six State Police till date, under the aegis of Headquarters Madhya Bharat Area, COD Jabalpur has continued this tradition by handing over 10,000 SLR rifles to Bihar State Police. This old and effective weapon is an important step towards making the arsenal of the state police force more strong and effective.
This weapon transfer process will not only help in strengthening the security system and law and order of the eastern states, but it will also reduce the expenditure of the government treasury by saving the money spent on the maintenance of these weapons and the manpower used on them. Central Ordnance Depot (COD), which is the most skilled in storing and maintaining military weapons, arms and ammunition, has focused its entire attention on reviving its old SLR weapon so that it can be brought back into service. Under this, the aim of the Ordnance Store is that through the detailed inspection and technical renovation process of the SLR weapon, the security forces of the states of the country can be made even more strong and effective and with its use, the law and
order of all the states can be greatly strengthened. Through this executive framework and project, Central Ordnance Depot, Jabalpur presented another excellent example, by which 10,000 old serviceable rifles 7.62 mm SLR and their spare parts were made available to Bihar Police free of cost. Bihar Police has been made more advanced and strong in the armed sector. This joint effort has proved how great results can be achieved through joint efforts of the military and civilian institutions.
