Irfan Ansari (35), who was seriously injured in the riot on Monday, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday at Mayo Hospital. Ansari, a resident of Bande Nawaz Nagar, Yashodhara Nagar, was among the rioting mob. He fled to the Hansapuri area, where he was attacked by an angry mob. According to the police, Ansari arrived in the sensitive areas on Monday evening and became part of the unruly mob.

However, another mob came face to face with Ansari and his group. Ansari tried to escape by entering a lane, but the mob cornered him and beat him up. Police personnel arrived to rescue Ansari and transported him to the hospital. He sustained serious injuries on his head and stomach. After seven days of treatment, Ansari succumbed to his injuries. A post-mortem was performed at Mayo Hospital, and the body was handed over to his family.
After the news of Ansari’s death reached the police, security arrangements were intensified in sensitive areas, including Yashodhara Nagar. Special teams from the Riot Control Police and Quick Response
Team were deployed in the vicinity. His last rites were performed under heavy police security during the night. Ansari worked as a fabrication worker and leaves behind two brothers, a sister, and parents to mourn his loss.
In connection with this case, the Tehsil Police had registered an attempt to murder charge against three individuals. After Ansari’s death, the charge was upgraded to murder in the FIR. The police have booked 15 persons in the murder case and arrested two of them, including one Sanjay Gaur, a resident of Timki.
