Contrary to earlier sessions held in recent years, this time, fifth session of 16th State’s Assembly has successfully followed the schedule and concluded on March 24 as per stipulated time with having nine sittings.
Of course! the Opposition continued to come up with dramatic and catchy ways of protest outside the House. But no walk out at the time of debate on crucial issues. This time session is in news more for issue raised by ruling party’s own MLA from Alot. It is also learnt that he was served notice by the party (it has nothing to do with raising question against his own party as the party personal says).
Overall in this session a budget of Rs 4.21 lakh crore was passed for the year 2025-26 late on Friday night.
Overall the proceedings were satisfactory except heated confrontation between MLA Bhupendra Singh Thakur and Congress MLA Hemant Katare during discussions on the motion of thanks to Governor’s address.
They traded barbs on each other. Later, Speaker and veteran leader Narendra Singh Tomar expunged the objectionable words.
Till the last day of this session (Monday), a total of nine meetings were held in the Budget Session which began on March 10. The proceedings of the House lasted for more than 56 hours. During this, the Speaker of the Assembly and the Chief Minister congratulated and thanked all the members. The Leader of the Opposition thanked the Speaker of the Assembly for conducting the House.
Earlier, the sessions were curtailed significantly and caused the loss of crore to the exchequer. So this wastage of public money raised a serious question on the functioning of the Assembly especially at a time when the debt on the govt is almost equal to the cost of budget presented in the House is around Rs 4.2 lakh crore.
Well said that the problems of the people are resolved only through meaningful discussions in the House. The functioning of the House and discussions are in the interest of both the ruling and the opposition parties. While on one hand the opposition gets an opportunity to express its views through questions, attention motions and various legislative means, an on the other, Government also receives valuable suggestions to remove the shortcomings in its functioning, which helps in improving and tightening the administrative system.
