Lochana claims women crown
RESERVE Bank of India’s Pranav Lokhande retained the men’s singles title while Lochana Jambhulkar of Bank of Baroda bagged women’s singles title at the 57th Inter-Bank Badminton Tournament, organised at the Robertson YMCA Hall, Civil Lines on Monday.
Pranav defeated Pratik Potey of State Bank of India 21-10, 21-12 to retain his title.
Earlier in the semis, Pratik beat Rajkumar Kare (RBI) 15-9, 15-4 and Pranav demolished Shivam Kukde (SBI) 15-2, 15-4.
In the quarters, Pratik ousted Rahul Ingole of IndusInd Bank 15-4, 15-5 and Rajkumar beat Ashish Ingle of SBI 15-12, 15-9. Shivam defeated Jitendra Yadav of SBI 15-10, 15-10 while Pranav ousted Aditya Gokhale (SBI) 15-2, 15-6.
In eves’ singles final, Lochana overcame Anagha Zade of SBI 21-9, 21-15 to clinch the coveted title.
Anagha had defeated Snehal Wankhede of Bank of India 15-3, 15-5 earlier in the semis.
Lochana got the better of Neelam Khandatey (RBI) 15-2, 15-9 in the other semis to reach the final.
Earlier in the quarters, Snehal overcame Vaishnavi Barade (RBI) 15-13, 15-11 and Anagha beat Mayura Chawre of BOI
15-11, 15-6.
Neelam overcame Supriya Jambhulkar of BOI 15-9, 13-15, 15-9, while Lochana beat Divya Ganesh (RBI) 15-5, 15-5.
The event faced tough competitions as about 28 and 24 entries for men and women respectively were received.
Gaurav Rege was the chief referee of the competition. He was assisted by Mangesh Puranik, Aditya Gokhale, Jayant Chedge, Tribhovan Meshram and Pravin Gurang.
