Addressing the Silver Jubilee function of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in Raipur President Droupadi Murmu praised the House for upholding high democratic traditions. She highlighted its extraordinary rule of automatic suspension for members who enter the well during proceedings and commended the discipline that has ensured that the Marshall has never been required in the past 25 years. The President emphasised that the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly has set a remarkable example of parliamentary conduct, not just for India but also for democratic institutions worldwide. Murmu also lauded the state assembly for having 19 female legislators in its 90-member house and expressed happiness over the number of women voters exceeding that of men in Chhattisgarh. She acknowledged the State’s progress in women’s empowerment.

Urging women MLAs to support their counterparts, she said, “Whether they are teachers, officers, social workers, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, laborers, or farmers, women often carve out a place for themselves while managing household responsibilities. When all women empower each other, society becomes stronger and more sensitive.” The President highlighted Chhattisgarh’s immense developmental potential in industries such as cement, minerals, steel, aluminum, and power generation. Murmu urged policymakers to ensure environmental conservation while advancing development and to include all sections of society in the journey toward modern progress. She recalled the contributions of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former MP Minimata, recognising their roles in public welfare. President Murmu also touched upon the historical and cultural ties between Chhattisgarh and Odisha, stating, “We consider Raipur a part of Odisha. Lord Jagannath is not just the deity of Odisha but belongs to everyone. Odisha shares a special bond with Chhattisgarh.”

Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka, Speaker Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, and Leader of Opposition Dr Charan Das Mahant also addressed the event. Dr Raman Singh, in his welcome speech, called the occasion a moment of pride and joy for the Legislative Assembly. President Murmu was honored with a shawl, a shreephal, and a memento by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Leader of Opposition Dr Charan Das Mahant.
