Atal Behari Vajpayee was the first Prime Minister of India who visited Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) Reshimbag Smruti Mandir on August 27, 2000. Vajpayee became Prime Minister first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999, followed by a full term from 1999 to 2004. During his full term, Vajpayee had come to Nagpur in the year 2000 when he visited Smruti Mandir.
Vajpayee, during his Nagpur tour, also had visited Deekshabhoomi and announced Rs one crore for its developmental work. Both the events were covered by ‘The Hitavada’. Vajpayee had paid tributes at both the places.
During his visit to Reshimbag Smruti Mandir, Vajpayee had met his Guru Narayan Tarte, a senior RSS functionary. The then Home Minister L K Advani, other ministers Pramod Mahajan, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and many other leaders accompanied him.
At Smriti Mandir, Vajpayee was received by the then Vidarbha Prant Sahsanghchalak Dr Shriram Joshi. At Deekshabhoomi, Vajpayee was welcomed by the then Rajya Sabha Member R S Gavai, Dr Ambedkar Smarak Samiti executives Sadanand Fulzele and others.
