Ganeshpeth Police have registered a non-cognisable offence against Atul Londhe, the State Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress (INC) for making defamatory remarks.
An official of Ganeshpeth Police Station said that the complaint was lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) City office-bearars on Friday against Londhe. They alleged that Londhe made controversial statement during the television debate.
Londhe allegedly stated that Prashant Koratkar, an accused in case of making derogatory remark against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, was arrested in the presence of Pratik Padvekar, an employee in the office of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
After making the remarks, the delegaton of BJP led by MLA Krishna Khopde and others, approached Ganeshpeth Police and lodged a complaint against Londhe. In their complaint, they condemned Londhe’s statement and accused him of defamation. The BJP leaders also issued public statements against Londhe’s remarks.
As a result, Ganeshpeth Police have registered a non-cognisable offence under Section 356(2) of the BNS agaisnt Atul Londhe for making defamatory statements.
