Even as temperature continues to soar, the fire-fighters were on their toes to tackle yet another instance of big fire incident on Wednesday. At around 3.30 pm,fire broke out at a godown stocking fire-crackers, sanitary material and glass adjoining Vaishali Nagar fly-over on Mehendibagh Road and the Fire and Emergency Services Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The estimated loss to the property is around Rs 3 crore. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. Due to presence of flammable material in the godown, flames spread within minutes. The raging flames could be seen from a distance of 1 km.

Traffic on the road slowed down as curious residents and passers-by thronged the spot. Thick black smoke and orange flames were billowing in the air sending shivers down the spine. The bursting fire-crackers caused panic in the area. For fire-fighters, who reached the spot from Sugat Nagar Fire Brigade Station, it was a tough situation. Seeing the intensity of flames, back-up was immediately called as the inferno had spun out of control owing to presence of combustible material. Soon additional tenders were dispatched to the spot from Lakadganj, Kalamna, Ganjipeth, Civil Lines, Trimurti Nagar, Wathoda, Sakkardara and Cotton Market to tackle the fire. About 60 fire-fighters battled for over six hours to control the flames.

Additional time was required to cool down the godown where only leftover material was seen littered every where. The godown was rented by Modern Fataka owned by Gulam Badar, and Adnan Musa who runs Fancy Frame Glass business. Besides the owner Vijay Kukde's Saikrupa Traders was also functioning from the premises. As per the owners, crackers stock worth Rs 2.50 crore, sanitary material worth Rs 55 lakh and glass material worth Rs 10,000 was gutted. The material that was gutted was listed as fire-crackers, coolers, television sets, computers, glass sheets, furniture, papers, sanitary pipes, and primer.
