A High Reach Pantograph (HRPT) Test has been set up at Ajni Electric Loco Shed at Central Railway's Nagpur Division. This marks a significant stride in enhancing maintenance efficiency and operational safety of electric locomotives. This indigenous test bench was locally developed for catering to the comprehensive testing needs of High Reach Pantographs, they are currently installed in 47 Ajni-based electric locomotives.

The newly commissioned test bench is a vital infrastructure that supports complete functional and performance testing of HRPTs. The facility allows for accurate assessment of pressure settings, detection of any irregularities, and measurement of key operational parameters of the pantographs. These include maximum extension and transverse flexibility, as well as raising and lowering timings, all of which are monitored through advanced digital meters to ensure precision and reliability. The High Reach Pantograph plays a crucial role in maintaining uninterrupted power collection from the overhead equipment, especially in routes with high catenary levels.

Ensuring its flawless operation is vital for safe and efficient train movement. The establishment of this test bench eliminates dependency on external agencies and enhances in-house technical capability, resulting in faster turnaround times and cost-effective maintenance. This initiative reflects Nagpur Division’s continued commitment to innovation, self-reliance, and excellence in locomotive maintenance. By upgrading technical facilities such as these, Central Railway reinforces its focus on reliability, performance, and passenger safety across its operational network, said the railway release.
