To beat the searing heat, Central Railway has reactivated the mist cooling system at Nagpur Railway Station. The move is to ensure passenger comfort during the harsh summer months. The system started from April 8 onwards, as temperatures in the region tend to soar above 45 degrees Celsius. This system offers a much-needed respite for passengers waiting at the station. The advanced mist cooling set-up is designed to reduce ambient temperature by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, creating a noticeably cooler and more pleasant atmosphere. Utilising high-pressure pumps and specialised nozzles, the system disperses a fine mist of water into the air.

As the mist evaporates, it absorbs heat from the surrounding environment, delivering an effective and refreshing cooling effect. The system comprises high-pressure pumps, microfilters, automated controls, and a robust piping network. Microfiltration ensures that the nozzles remain clog-free, contributing to the system’s efficiency and low maintenance needs. The salient feature of the system is that it is ideal for large, open-air platforms where traditional air conditioning isn’t practical. With the lack of green shade at the station, the searing heat wave makes it terrible for passengers waiting for the arrival of trains. Hence, the release of mist during intermittent intervals provides much-needed respite from heat.

The system is eco-friendly and energy efficient, and it operates with minimal energy consumption, aligning with sustainable practices. Also, it has low maintenance, as microfiltration prevents nozzle clogging, ensuring seamless functioning with reduced maintenance. The release of mist improves air quality, as it helps reduce dust and airborne particles, making the platform environment healthier for passengers. Space Optimised: The system is integrated within existing infrastructure, requiring no additional space or structural modification. Passengers can now enjoy a cooler and more comfortable environment at Nagpur Railway Station, even during the scorching summer days.
