Bharatiya Janata Party Pichhda Varga Morcha observed the 198th birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, on Friday. A number of senior office-bearers of the Morcha under the leadership of MLA Ashok Rohani garlanded the statue of Mahatma Phule at Ambedkar Park, Modibada Sadar.
On the occasion, senior members of the Saini Samaj and sanitation workers were felicitated with shawls and shriphal, followed by the distribution of sweets. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Rohani praised Mahatma Phule as one of the greatest Indian thinkers and reformers of the 19th century. He said the Mahatma opened the doors of education to poor and women, igniting a social revolution through the Satyashodhak Samaj.
“Mahatma Phule is a symbol of social empowerment who dedicated his entire life to the service of the nation.
His relentless efforts to liberate women and society from regressive practices also strengthened India’s freedom movement”, he added.
Expressing views on the occasion, Sanjay Yadav, President of the Morcha said we are honouring the legacy of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, a great reformer, thinker, writer, social worker and revolutionary.
Born on April 11, 1827 in Pune, Maharashtra, Phule devoted his entire life to uplifting the oppressed, exploited and women. Known formally as Jyotirao Govindrao Phule, his life, ideas and tireless work continue to inspire generations across India, said Yadav.
