A shocking incident unfolded outside Gautam Nagar Police Station in Bhopal on Friday afternoon when a man doused himself with petrol and set himself ablaze, fearing his wife’s complaint would lead to his arrest. Quick action by police personnel, who used water and blankets to douse the flames, saved his life. According to Station House Officer Mahendra Singh Thakur, the man, identified as Suraj Gyasi (30) from Tikamgarh, has been living in his wife’s parental home in Harizan Basti,

Teela Jamalpura. Two days ago, his wife filed an FIR against him at Teela Jamalpura Police Station following a domestic dispute. On Friday, around 1 pm, another argument broke out, prompting his wife to head to Gautam Nagar police station with a complaint. Fearing arrest, Suraj arrived at the station, sprinkled petrol on himself, and set himself on fire. Police staff acted swiftly, extinguishing the flames with water and blankets before rushing Suraj to a hospital. A constable sustained minor burns on his hands during the rescue. Suraj’s condition is reported to be stable.
