Public Works Department’s (PWD) National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Division will start the demolition of the decades old Pachpaoli road over bridge (RoB) from April 12 to facilitate a new flyover project. For the demolition work, PWD’s NHAI Division got the conditional No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian Railways and city police’s Traffic Department recently. This demolition aims to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the area. The existing Pachpaoli RoB will be the third flyover in the city, after Chhatrapati Square flyover and Nagpur Railway Station flyover, which is going to be demolished. When the flyover demolition starts, motorists will be able to use the road below it.

The existing Kumbharpura side arm of the RoB will remain intact and it will be joined with the new flyover later on. NHAI is planning to dismantle the existing 1.5 km long Pachpaoli RoB to build a 4 km long flyover from Kamal Talkies Square to Reshimbagh Square. The new flyover will pass through congested squares like Golibar Square, Lal Imli Square, Agrasen Square, Gandhi Gate, and Ashok Square before landing ahead of Reshimbagh Square. It is part of the Rs 998 crore Indora to Dighori flyover project.

Traffic jam over the existing Pachpaoli RoB is a common activity and after construction of the new flyover, commuters who want to go to Reshimbagh can directly go there without any traffic jam. The demolition and cleaning work will be completed within a month after its start. Demolition of such a huge RoB is going to be a hefty task as it is built in a congested area with houses close to the structure. Therefore, PWD’s NHAI Division has urged citizens and nearby residents to cooperate with the administration during the demolition work. As per the information, PWD’s NHAI division will use special machinery, including a diamond cutter and jaw crusher, for the process of dismantling the bridge and disposing it off.
