Of the deceased workers, three were found charred while two succumb to burns at hospital n Staff Reporter The explosion that occurred on Friday at the MMP Aluminum Industry, located in the Umred MIDC area, resulted in the deaths of five workers by Saturday. Two workers succumbed to their burn injuries at the hospital, while three were found charred to death after the fire was fully extinguished. Six other workers sustained injuries in the explosion. The names of the deceased workers are - Piyush Durge, Sachin Purushottam Masram, both residents of Panjrepar, tehsil Bhiwapur; Nikhil Shende, a resident of Virkhandi, tehsil Bhiwapur; Abhilash Janjal, a resident of Gavasut, tehsil Umred; Nikhil Nehare, a resident of Chikhaldhokda, tehsil Umred.
 
The injured workers are identified as Manish Wagh, a resident of Pendharabodi, tehsil Bhiwapur; Karan Shende, a resident of Panjrepar, tehsil Bhiwapur; Navneet Kumre, a resident of Mangli, tehsil Umred; Piyush Tekam, a resident of Panjrepar, tehsil Bhiwapur; Karan Bawne, a resident of Pimpla, tehsil Umred; Kamlesh Thakre, a resident of Gondbori, tehsil Bhiwapur. According to the police, all injured workers have been admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
 
The company manufactures aluminum foil and aluminum powder. After the explosion, thick smoke was visible from nearly a kilometre away. Fire tenders from the Umred Municipal Council and MIDC rushed to the spot and initiated fire control operations. However, extinguishing the fire proved difficult due to involvement of aluminum powder, a highly flammable material. The fire was brought under control after nearly eight hours of continuous efforts. Many workers’ clothes caught fire during the blast, leading to severe injuries. The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown. A detailed investigation is currently underway, the police officials added.
