Three accused arrested for extortion as fake mining officer in custody of Abhanpur Police.

The Abhanpur Police Station apprehended a gang of three individuals who were extorting money by impersonating mining officers. The accused have been identified as Pranay Sahu (21, resident of New Chagorabhata, Raipur), Ashish Pratap Yadav (26, resident of DD Nagar, Raipur), and Tilka Sahu (44, resident of New Chagorabhata, Raipur). All three have been arrested and sent to judicial remand.
The case originated from a complaint filed by Omlal Yadav, 28, a resident of Ghasra, police station Dhamdha.
According to the complaint, on April 11, 2025, around 8:00 pm near the Manikchauri railway crossing, the three accused stopped Yadav’s vehicle (CG 07 CN 7064). They allegedly claimed to be mining officers and journalists and threatened to issue an online challan of Rs 4 lakhs. Subsequently, they illegally collected a total of Rs 30,000 from Yadav and Mohit Sahu through PhonePe.
Based on Yadav’s report, Abhanpur Police registered Crime No. 157/2025 under sections 308 (2), 204, 319 (2), 318 (4), and 3 (5) of the BNS.
