Raipur,
In a landmark feat for Chhattisgarh Police, IPS officer Bhawana Gupta has clinched a gold medal in the singles category of the All India Police Table Tennis and Badminton Championship being held in Kochi, Kerala. Gupta, currently serving as Superintendent of Police, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi (GPM), defeated a formidable Mizoram Police opponent in the finals to script a golden chapter for State.
The victory marks a proud moment for the state police, further elevated by Chhattisgarh’s women’s team bagging a bronze in the women’s open team event—its first-ever team medal since statehood. The team was jointly led by IPS Bhawana Gupta (2014 batch) and trainee Deputy Superintendent of Police Aakarshi Kashyap, who is also an international badminton player.
Their duo has also advanced to the finals of the women’s doubles GO event, with hopes high for additional podium finishes in mixed doubles and singles events.
This triumph has reinforced the growing presence of women officers in national-level sports, inspiring many to push their boundaries beyond routine policing duties. Officers at Police Headquarters hailed the CG women’s squad for “exemplary synergy of discipline and sportsmanship”. The national championship hosted at Kochi from April 11 to 14 has seen participation from over 16 states, featuring top-ranked players across constabulary and officer ranks.
CG’s representation also includes IPS Suraj Singh (2015 batch), who is competing in other categories. Both Bhawana Gupta and Aakarshi Kashyap have become flag-bearers of Chhattisgarh’s growing sporting prominence within central forces. Gupta’s tactical grit in the finals and Aakarshi’s youthful precision have brought together the perfect blend of experience and emerging talent.
