Maharashtra Government has mandated installation of CCTV camera network in all schools against the backdrop of disturbing incidents and to enhance safety of students
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will be bringing all its schools under CCTV watch. As per the plans drawn up by the Education Department, by July-end, all the schools will be covered by CCTV network. It may be mentioned that Maharashtra Government has mandated installation of CCTV network in all schools against the backdrop of disturbing incidents and to enhance safety of students.
NMC has made a provision of Rs 2.50 crore for affixing the CCTV cameras across the schools in different parts of the city.
There are in all 116 schools run by NMC, of which, 88 are primary, while 28 are middle schools. With effect from the previous academic session, the civic administration started work on rolling out CCTV project for its schools, especially to ensure protection for girl child. So far, 25 school buildings out of 28 are under CCTV watch and by the end of July, other schools too will be equipped with security cover.
As per the arrangement, the Head Master’s cabin will have the CCTV display unit and its control. Also, the Education Officer will also monitor the feed on the CCTV.
Besides, the CCTV at schools will also be monitored from Central Command Centre at NMC Headquarters.
The office of Education Officer will continue to analyse CCTV footage and in case of any requirement, then same will be decided expeditiously.
Sadhna Sayam, Education Officer, NMC, said that the reason for affixing CCTVs at civic schools is to ensure round the clock watch to foil any unsavoury incident. Similarly, the digital eye can provide better surveillance and also, in case of any trouble, the evidence would be helpful.
