In the bustling city of Nagpur, a remarkable journey unfolded – a journey that resonated with passion, conviction and a deep sense of purpose. Dr Sumant Tekade, a name synonymous with inspiration and dedication, was much more than a scholar; he was like a little brother to me, friend, philosopher, guide and mentor to those who had the privilege of knowing him intimately.
Having obtained his PhD in Management from Bengaluru Vishwavidyalay, Dr Sumant initially took the reins as the Head of the Department at a renowned college in Nagpur. Following his academic tenure, he transitioned into the corporate sector, where his skills were met with success. However, an awakening beckoned – a realisation that his true purpose lay beyond the confines of traditional career.
From a young age, Dr Sumant was influenced by the valour and wisdom of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
He felt a strong calling to spread the profound teachings and life lessons of Shivaji Maharaj.
Embracing this new found purpose, he made the courageous decision to leave his stable job and dedicate his life to oratory- a medium through which he could share the life of Shivaji Maharaj.
Dr Sumant became a beacon of inspiration, delivering over 900 speeches that captivated hearts and minds. He spoke not just of Shivaji Maharaj’s heroism but delved into his ethos, his quest for Swaraj (self-rule), and the managerial brilliance that shaped his victories. For me, Sumant was like my brother as he happened to be a friend of my brother Shaunak Gadge. I will never forget a series, he started for school on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, during Covid times and my school was fortunate to be part of it.
Dr Sumant’s impactful journey, however, was tragically cut short when he left us during the COVID-19 pandemic. His departure etched a void that is felt deeply by all who knew him.
The legacy of Dr Sumant Tekade continuous to live on not just in the hearts of those he inspired, but also in the lessons he imparted about courage, leadership and the importance of knowing one’s heritage. His voyage was not merely about being a speaker; it was about igniting a movement – a movement that beckons us to re-examine our values, to embrace our legacy, and to take actionable steps towards building a brighter future.
As we remember Dr Sumant, let us also honour his story – a story that encourages us to seek purpose, to pursue our passions, and inspire others.
In a world often clouded by uncertainty, his life serves as a lighthouse, guiding us to embrace our heritage while paving the way for a brighter tomorrow. Dr Sumant may have passed on, but the light of his mission continues to guide us.
Like the lessons of Shivaji Maharaj, which resonate through generations, his legacy offers a message of hope, resilience and the power of words to change lives. May we strive to carry this torch forward, spreading inspiration in every corner of our world, just as he did.
