Dawwa (S) Gram Panchayat (GP) of Sadk Arjuni taluka of the district has won the first prize in the National Panchayat Awards 2023-24. The Gram Panchayat has received the ‘Climate Action Special Panchayat Award’ for its remarkable performance in preventing the adverse effects of climate change.
The Gram Panchayat has become the recipient of the prize money comprising of Rs 1 crore. The Birdahalli Gram Panchayat in Karnataka has won the second prize and Motipur Gram Panchayat in Bihar has won the third award.
The announcement of this award was made by the Government on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Zilla Parishad President Laikaram Bhendarkar; Chief Executive Officer, Muruganantham M and Deputy Chief Executive Officer M M Wasnik have congratulated Dawwa (S) Gram Panchayat team for this special achievement.
Dawwa (S) Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Yogeshwari Chaudhary, Gram Panchayat Officer Sindhu Ramchandra Suryavanshi have told the media that due to increasing pollution on the Earth, the temperature is increasing.
“This is affecting the humanS and crops. If we want to stop this, the Gram Panchayat needs to take the initiative. Measures such as using solar energy at home, banning plastic, banning crackers have been taken. Without adopting a lifestyle with the five elements of nature - Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Sky - we cannot live with nature, otherwise biodiversity will not exist. Our Gram Panchayat has taken this step,” she said.
Under the guidance of Muruganantham, Chief Executive Officer of Gondia Zilla Parishad, the GP vowed to prepare the village for the National Panchayat Raj Award, for which it received the co-operation of all the members of the Gram Panchayat and the villagers.

To get this award, under the guidance of Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer M Muruganantham, Vice-President Suresh Harshe, Deputy Chief Executive Officer M M Wasnik, S I Vaidya, Chairman of Sadak Arjuni Panchayat Samiti Chetan Vadgaye, Deputy Chairman Nishatai Kashiwar, Group Development Officer Ravikant Sanap, Dilip Khotele, Extension Officer Ravindra Parate, Y C Patle, Upsarpanch Sunil Ghasle, all members of the Gram Panchayat, all Gram Panchayat officers and villagers worked tirelessly.
