In a proactive move to empower young girls against sexual violence, the Pradesh Dewangan Samaj has initiated state-wide free self-defense training camps. The programme, which commenced in Birgaon, aims to equip girls with practical techniques to protect themselves, including methods to incapacitate attackers with a single strike. Girls aged between 8 and 18 years are actively participating in these camps.

 

The self-defense camp, organized by the State Mahila Dewangan Samaj, will be held every Sunday. In the inaugural session in Birgaon, black belt national trainer Abhishek Pandey provided instruction on effective self-defense maneuvers against potential rapists. The training included distinguishing between appropriate and inappropriate touch. Trainers Payal and Digeshwari also taught the girls how to use a stick for self-protection. The enthusiasm displayed by the participating girls was notable.

 

Dr Omprakash Dewangan, President of the State Dewangan Samaj, emphasized the urgent need for such training, citing the alarming rise in crimes against young girls, including the recent rape and murder of a 3-year-old in Durg. He stated that the Dewangan Samaj is launching these self-defense camps across the state for girls of all communities to prevent such tragedies. The formal inauguration in Birgaon marks the beginning of this state-wide initiative.

Daansingh Dewangan, State President of the Media and Publicity Cell of the State Dewangan Samaj, urged every girl to communicate any untoward incident to their families. He advised that any inappropriate touching or teasing should be resisted immediately to deter further aggression.

 

Renu Dewangan, State President of the Pradesh Mahila Dewangan Samaj, stressed the importance of self-defense training for all daughters and encouraged parents to prioritize it.

The program witnessed the presence of Shriddhanjali Dewangan (State General Secretary, Pradesh Mahila Dewangan Samaj), Lata Dewangan (Patron), Chandrakala Dewangan (District President), and Domesh Dewangan.
