A shocking case has come to light where a businessman and his son used fake vehicle registration number plate on their Mercedes car to avoid paying traffic challans.
The accused are identified as Harish Devicharan Tiwari (50), a businessman and his son Yash (25), a student, and residents of Pragatisheel Colony, Wardha Road. The original registration number of their Mercedes is (MH-31/EX-9993), but for almost a year, the duo were using a duplicate registration number plate (MH-02/DZ-5061) which is the registration number of Mercedes belonging to Hanit Singh Arora, a resident of Mira Road, Mumbai.
Their illegal act came to fore when the car with fake registration number was found parked in a no-parking zone near Poonam Mall at Alankar Square.
Head Constable Surendra Pagare from Sonegaon Traffic Zone scanned the number using the e-Challan system and found the vehicle listed as “suspicious.” The registration number was already flagged because the real owner, Hanit Singh, had earlier complained that his car was not in Nagpur despite receiving overspeeding challans at his address.
After spotting the car, the police called Harish and his son Yash for questioning.
They reached the spot without the vehicle documents. The car was detained and during the investigation, police found out that four challans had been issued on this fake vehicle registration number in the past year.
Now, the Bajaj Nagar Police have filed an FIR against Harish and Yash Tiwari under multiple sections for cheating and forgery.
DCP Traffic Archit Chandak warned the public not to use fake or tampered vehicle registration number plates. “This is a serious crime. Doing this to avoid fines can land you in jail,” he warned.
