KAWARDHA,
IN a major crackdown, Kabirdham district police have seized gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 3 crore along with Rs 8.40 lakh in cash from two individuals who failed to produce valid documents for the valuables. The operation was carried out by Kawardha police station based on a tip-off, leading to the detention of two suspects.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police intercepted a car and detained Umashankar Sahu of Bhagat Chowk, Tikrapara, Raipur, and Javed Jivany of Fawwara Chowk, Baron Bazar, Raipur. During the search, officials
recovered 4,000.7 grams of
gold ornaments, besides the cash and the vehicle.
When asked to provide documentation for the gold, the suspects failed to present any valid papers, raising suspicions of illegal transportation.
The police subsequently registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have alerted the Income Tax and State Tax (GST) departments to investigate potential tax evasion, undeclared assets, or hawala transactions.
Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh (IPS) led the operation under the guidance of Additional SPs Pushpendra Baghel and Pankaj Patel and SDOP Kawardha Krishna Kumar Chandrakar (DSP). The Kabirdham police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on financial irregularities and urged the public to report any suspicious movement of cash, gold, or other valuables.
