City girls dominate in Vidarbha Powerlifting Championship

PRARTHI Gawli bagged a gold medal and lifted the maximum total weight on Day 1 of the 20th Vidarbha Junior and Sub-Junior Powerlifting Championship for boys and girls held under the aegis of Nagpur district and Vidarbha Powerlifting Association which kicked off at MLA hostel in Civil Lines on Friday. Prarthi lifted a total of 277.5 kg which included 117 kg of squat, 40 kg of bench press, 120 kg of dead lift for which she was awarded 49.99 points. With 208 boys and girls from over 11 districts participating in the event, city girls dominated the event, bagging eight medals in total of six categories which includes three gold medals.
 
Nagpur’s Tanvi Bhanarkar (43 kg bodyweight category) lifted 40 kg in squat, 65 kg in dead lift, for the total lift of 132.5 kg to bag the yellow metal. She was followed by city-mate Vishakha Nagpure who lifted 117.5 kg in total and the third spot was secured by Nagpur’s Mayuri Wankhede who lifted a total of 100 kg. City’s Tanushree Deulikar participating in 47 kg bodyweight category lifted a total of 122.5 kg to gain the title. In the 52 kg category of girls, Vandana Bawane and Kanishka Jagtap of Nagpur secured second and third spot respectively, as the gold medal was won by Janvi Mahato of Akola. Based on the results of this competition, a team will be picked to represent Vidarbha at the National Powerlifting Competition in Kolhapur next month.
 
Earlier, the competition was inaugurated by Maharashtra Woodball Association’s President Kumar Masram, while senior sports journalist Kishor Bagde, Powerlifting Association’s Secretary Sachin Mathne, Vinod Jawadkar were present on the dais. Lakshmikant Meshram, Anand Dabre, Sandip Mahanto, Suryakant Umbarkar, Saurabh Rangari, Vishnu Nimsade, Janardhan Khorgade, Shekhar Dabhale, Gajanan Pande, Sagar More, Akhilesh Pande, Amit Durge, Ankush Elgunde, Rama Mehsare, Devanand Shukla, Abhisekh Mirsha and others are working hard for the success of the event.
