Damaged power infrastructure at Gorewada
Staff Reporter :
Power supply in Gorewada area was affected for over 24 hours post horrific mishap of Sunday that snuffed out life of Zahoor Hasan, a notable personality in the city and an expert in the field of automobile engineering. Hasan, who was well known for his passion for cars, died in most unfortunate manner while driving a high end four-wheeler.
The mishap occurred after the driver of a tipper failed to control the speed of the heavy vehicle after its brakes failed and it rammed into Hasan’s car and flattened it. The uncontrolled tipper thereafter rammed into the electricity infrastructure at Gorewada turning.
As per Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) officials, the damage caused to the distribution transformer was quite severe.
Immediately post smashing of the vehicles into the pole, power supply was knocked out from the distribution point. There were two remote monitoring unit (RMU) that resulted in breakdown of 11 KV express feeder going to Gorewada sub-station. As the tipper remained stuck at the spot for considerable period of time, the MSEDCL technicians were hampered in restoring the supply. Due to overload on the system, at 12.30 pm, a breakdown occurred on 33 Gorewada feeder.
To tide over the problem, supply was routed from 33 KV Amravati Road Sub Station at 1 pm. But due to overloading condition, 2 no of Gorewada water work connection load could not take that disrupted water purification and pumping operation at the plant.
Later on by diverting load of Ravi Bhavan feeder and Friends Colony feeder on Nag Bhavan sub station and Seminary Hills sub station, the rest of feeder could be charged at 6.30 am. The 33 Gorewada’s tower line conductor is broken from monopole near Dinshaw factory. The MSEDCL technical team slogged it out under simmering heat to overhaul and repair the broken network on Monday.
