6th International Conference on ICSMS at IMT concludes

Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Nagpur hosted the 6th International Conference on ‘Sustainability and Management Strategy’ (ICSMS- 2019) on September 27 and 28, 2019. The conference was organised by the Centre for Sustainability, Growth and Development (CSGD) of the Institute. The academic and technical partners for this conference were California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), United States & Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), Nagpur.
The event saw participation from institutes across the country, like IIM Ahmedabad, Symbiosis Law School, Jaypee Business School, North Orissa University and many more. During the two-day event, participants presented their scholarly research papers and case studies on broader theme of ‘Sustainability and Management Strategy’. The conference saw highly proficient keynote speakers and experts like Dr Jai Shankar Pandey, Chief Scientist, Science Secretary and Head, Climate Change and Skilling Division at CSIR- NEERI, Dr Breena E. Coates, Professor Emeritus of Global Strategy & Sustainability, Chairperson - School of Management Studies, CSUSB, United States, Dr Jennifer D Alford, Professor and Environmental Expert at CSUSB, United States and Dr C V Chalapati Rao, Environmental Management Expert, formerly Senior Most Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEERI.
The vast practical and technical knowledge of the eminent speakers helped to bridge the gap between organisational practices and sustainability. The two-day conference had six tracks, which were themed around ‘Sustainability practices and business strategy’, ‘Sustainability in marketing’, ‘Sustainability in economic development’ and ‘Sustainable practices in IT and General Management’, ‘Sustainability in employment generation and organisational practices’ among others. The 2nd day of the conference started with the presentation of invited speaker Dr Breena E Coates, followed by technical track presentations by participants.
The track chairs for the 2nd day were Dr Veena Pailwar, Professor, Economics, IMT Nagpur, Prof Sayan Banerjee, Associate Professor, Economics, IMT Nagpur, Dr Jasbir Singh Matharu, Associate Professor, Finance, IMT Nagpur and Dr Sarbjit Singh Oberoi (Professor, Operations, IMT Nagpur. During the deliberations, the presenters had enriching discussions on ‘Sustainable economic growth’, ‘Energy consumption’, ‘Sustainable practices in banking and retail’ among other areas. The two-day conference concluded with the valedictory address by Dr C V Chalapati Rao (formerly Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEERI) and concluding remarks from Dr P Janaki Ramudu (Professor and Dean-Academics, IMT Nagpur), followed by certificate distribution for participants and best paper awards. Dr. Gajavelli VS (Conference Co-chair and Professor, Economics, IMT Nagpur) thanked all the participants for their enthusiastic participation.
