Health Minister, TS Singh Deo inaugurated the Multi Disciplinary Research Unit (MRU) at Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital here on Monday. MRU has been developed at a cost of 5 crore. Singh Deo visited the research unit and took information about the equipment and research process. Singh Deo said that with the introduction of MRU facility, it will be easier for doctors to research many new diseases and encourage research in the state. During inauguration ceremony Raipur MLAs Kuldeep Juneja, Vikas Upadhyay, Secretary Health Niharika Barik Singh, Dean Abha Singh, Dr Vivek Choudhary and other officials from health department were present.
The Research Lab will be jointly run by the Central Government Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Health Research and Chhattisgarh state government. The unit is located on the second floor of Telemedicine Hall building of OPD at BRAMH. Research done in the research unit will help to find out the causes of spread of diseases and effective medicine for their treatment, this will give accurate information of treatment. Doctors of other medical colleges will also be able to research the cause of spread of non communicable diseases (NCDs) and the right direction and control of their treatment.
The aim of MRU is to encourage and strengthen the research environment in medical colleges, help to establish multi-disciplinary research facilities with a view to improve health and improve overall health status such as screening process and diagnosis. Established with the broad objective of research, MRU currently has research facilities like molecular biology, cell biology, new clinical development and drug discovery. Presently, MRU scientists and researchers will research on the preventive measures by detecting the onset of oral cancer, the role and management of HPV virus in uterine cancer and screening of sickle cell Anemia in remote areas.
