Proposed DRDO centre in Gwalior will hit employment, incur loss: Tankha

Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Krishna Tankha during Zero Hour of the Winter Session of Parliament raised the issue of proposed development of Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation and Establishment Centre in Gwalior. MP Tankha informed the House that proposed DRDO centre will affect one-third Gwalior district and thousands of employments will be affected. He added that Gwalior is an important centre of Madhya Pradesh.
 
In this city various important establishments like Comptroller and Audit General Office, Stadium, Government Hospital, Railway Line, Gwalior University, High Court judges and administrative officers bungalow, private houses, colony malls and various other important infrastructures are established and these all will be affected. According to a survey it is estimated that it will cause loss of over Rs 9,000 crore. Tankha added that according to a notification issued by the Union Government in 2005 in the periphery of 200 meters to the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation Centre any construction is totally restricted.
 
Challenging the notification a public interest litigation has been filed. In primary hearing of the petition the Supreme Court has given interim stay on notification and asked the State and Union Government to resolve the issue. In this regard MP Tankha had written letters to the Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath appealing to intervene into the matter and to draw a solution having agreement of all.
