11th meeting of Chhattisgarh State Wildlife Board held at Chief Minister’s official residence
Chhattisgarh government has decided to declare Guru Ghasidas National Park in Koriya district as the Tiger Reserve. The decision was taken in the 11th meeting of Chhattisgarh State Wildlife Board held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at his official residence on Sunday. It may be mentioned that National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) already gave in-principle approval for creation of Guru Ghasidas National Park as the Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh. At present, Chhattisgarh has three tiger reserves-Indravati, Udanti-Sitanadi and Achanakmar. According to an NTCA, these reserves have 26 tigers as per tiger census of 2010.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the forest officials to conserve flora and fauna for wildlife in the forests of the state. Baghel also asked the officials to arrange water and food for the wildlife in the forests. In the meeting, various important decisions were taken in the meeting. It was informed in the meeting that the State government notified for creation of Lemru Elephant Reserve. Various proposals including setting up of police post at Kanakbeera village under Gomarda Sanctuary Raigarh, a proposal for mascot of state wild animal wild buffalo and state bird hill myna and a proposal for conservation of vultures and other proposals were discussed in detail in the meeting.
Discussions on shifting of spotted deer from Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary to Guru Ghasidas National Park and Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve were also held in the meeting. Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, MLAs Khelsai Singh, Devwrat Singh, Shishupal Sori, Additional Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary of the Forest Department Manoj Kumar Pingua, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Rakesh Chaturvedi, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) Atul Kumar Shukla and other members attended the meeting.
