Arnav Shukla and Palash Mukherjee from Bhavan’s B P Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines bagged national finals runner up prize in 20th edition of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) IT Wiz 2019. It is India’s biggest and longest running annual Inter-School Technology Quiz held in Mumbai. Nagpur. Yashovardhan Shetty and Udbhav Saxena from Hyderabad Public School walked away with the TCS IT Wiz Championship title. The winning team got vouchers worth Rs 1,50,000 and the coveted champion trophy for their school, while the runners-up took home vouchers worth Rs 1,00,000 along with a trophy for the school.
 
Manasi Gade, Preeti Gotmare and Kanvaljit Singh Rajput of Bhavan’s Civil Lines worked hard to help Arnav and Palash. This branch of Bhavan’s won heritage quiz organised by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It was the only school to achieve this feat. Anju Butani, Principal congratulated the team. Dr Ritu Anand, Chief Leadership and Diversity Officer, TCS, was present on the occasion and handed over the prizes to the National Champions and Runner-ups. Started in 1999 to spark interest in technology among high school students, TCS IT Wiz is today the largest and longest-running inter-school IT quiz in India. The 20th anniversary edition witnessed strong participation, from over 11,000 + students of classes 8-12 from 850+ schools, predominantly from Tier II and Tier III cities.
 
The top six teams from the regional editions held in 12 cities – Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune – made it to the National finals. The National Finals, consisting of five buzzer-based rounds, including one focused on TCS, gave each of the six teams an equal opportunity to respond. Conducted with characteristic exuberance by quiz-master, Giri ‘Pickbrain’ Balasubramaniam, the battle for the coveted national championship title witnessed a strong contest among the top six, extremely talented teams.
 
TCS IT Wiz saw some very interesting questions, and the creative use of animation, to challenge and motivate the young minds on stage and in the audience. Topics covered included the history of IT, application of IT across various sectors, IT personalities – global, national and local, brands of technology companies, emerging areas such as cloud computing, AI, automation, biometrics, robotics, unique websites, IT buzzwords and acronyms.
