BHOGNADIH :

ACCUSING the Congress of peddling lies over the amended Citizenship Act and creating an atmosphere of fear among Muslims, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday iterated that no citizen in the country would be affected by the law. Addressing a poll rally here, Modi appealed to college and university students, who had been protesting over the amended Act, to bring forth issues for discussion with the Government in a “democratic manner”. He alleged that “urban Naxals” were trying to instigate youth in the country to foment trouble. Amid a wave of violent protests in several parts of the country over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, Modi sought to assuage concerns of Indians apprehensive about getting stripped of their citizenship. He said the law was enacted for religious minorities of three nations--Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan--who fled their countries because of religious persecution.

“It’s for people who have fled three countries due to atrocities on account of their religious faith. It’s for those who are living in miserable conditions and cannot go back,” he said. Modi said he wanted to know how the new citizenship law had encroached upon the rights of Indian Muslims, or for that matter, any citizen of the country. “I dare the Congress, its friends to publicly declare they are prepared to accord Indian citizenship to all Pakistanis,” he said. The Prime Minister also said that people of Jharkhand have voted fearlessly in the first four phases of Assembly elections.

He claimed that when lotus bloomed, tribals, women and youth across the country were benefited. Centre stopped Rly services in WB over minor incidents, says Mamata: TERMING the ongoing violence and arson in the state over the citizenship law as a “few minor incidents”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said just because the BJP has requisite numbers in Parliament, it cannot bully the States into enforcing the law. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had said at a Jharkhand rally that the “protesters could be identified by their clothes”, she asserted that “miscreants cannot be differentiated on the basis of their attire”.

Minorities need not fear CAA: Gadkari

NEW DELHI :

ASSERTING that minorities in India have nothing to fear from the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said some parties who want to play vote bank politics are creating fear and insecurity. Union Minister Gadkari speaking at ‘Agenda Aaj Tak 2019’ said “deliberate” attempts are being made by such forces to create “misunderstanding” of the law. “This Act is against foreigners and not against Indian citizens... People are being provoked by deliberately creating misunderstanding about the law,” Gadkari said.
