Amravati District got honoured with National award for significent work in employment generation under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA). Shailesh Nawal, Amravati District Collector, Mitali Sethi, Dharni Project Officer. Manish Gaekwad, Deputy Collector and Maya Wankhade, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Amravati Zilla Parishad recieved the award at the hands of Narendrasingh Tomar, Union Rural Development Minister in a programme organised by Rural Development Ministry, Government of India at Delhi.
The award has been presented to Amravati district taking into account hundreds of works related to basic amenities such as water conservation, cleanliness, plantation being done under MREGS with an aim to set fundamental amenities along with employment generation. Target of 78.81 lakh human days employment generation was kept for year 2018-19 focussing on preventing migration from the district and establishing basic amenties. Against the set target, the district has achieved 108 percent target - 84.84 lakh human days employment generation. Total of 25,950 familes got 100 days of employment. Special focus was laid on preventing migration from Melghat, a tribal dominated belt, where migration took place in large number. Against the set target 11,192 people got work in Melghat in the year.
Maharashtra Government also received National award for excellent work from Agriculture Livelihood field under Umed Abhiyan from Deendayal Antyoday National Rural Livelihood Drive and also for excellent water conservation work under MREGS.
Amravati District was honoured with the award comprising memento and certificate. Efforts of Shailesh Nawal, Manisha Khatri, the then Chief Executive Officer of Amravati Zilla Parishad and Maya Wankhade are being praised all over.
