Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of Indian Overseas Bank containing Rs 2.83 lakh was stolen from Patansaongi in Khaparkheda Police Station area in the wee hours of Friday. The thieves also decamped with Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and CCTV from ATM kiosk, said police.

According to police, a citizen reported to the police that the ATM was stolen from the kiosk. The ATM system was disconnected from bank’s server at 2 am. It was having Rs 2,83,600/- in cash, said Police Inspector (Local Crime Branch) Anil Jittawar. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Ola visited the spot in the morning and launched probe.
The accused have used a Mahindra Pick up jeep to carry the ATM machine. The jeep was stolen from Katol area on Wednesday. On Tuesday night, the robbers had made an unsuccessful attempt of looting ATM from Bazargaon town on Amravati Road. The police are suspecting involvement of a gang from Mewat of Haryana. The gang had targeted ATMs in neighbouring Wardha district in year 2015. On October 14, an ATM containing Rs 16 lakh cash was stolen by the robbers from Katol town with same modus-operendi.
A police officer said that the thieves have also stolen CCTV and DVR to destroy the evidence. Khaparkheda Police have registered a case under Section 457 and 380 of Indian Penal Code.
