INSPIRED by prestigious IITs, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal has proposed to allot single bedroom apartment to married research scholars in campus. The institute said that it is working towards improvement of research work. Currently, MANIT allows hostel to single research scholars while married scholar rent house out of the campus if they want to stay with their spouse. Concerned over the problems of married scholars, MANIT Director N S Raghuvanshi prepared a proposal to allot at least 100 single bedroom apartment to married couples for three years where they will be allowed to stay with spouse and child if any.

This kind of facility is currently given in Indian Institute of Technology and few other prestigious institutes. MANIT too initiated to provide such facility to scholars so that they could give more time to research work. This will also help improve research quality of the institute. Director Raghuvanshi said that he is focusing towards improvement in research content and its quality. Proposal for single room set will be tabled by Director in upcoming Board of Governor (BoG) meet which is scheduled on December 16. The meeting will be held in New Delhi as the institute has started this trend of conducting BoG meet in Delhi for past five years. Single room set includes one room, kitchen and washroom.

Besides, 96 quarters will also be constructed in the campus for non-teaching staff where they will be allowed to stay with family. As there is lack of housing facility for girl students, Director Raghuvanshi has proposed to construct girls hostel with occupancy of 1200 seats. Girls hostel will be constructed worth Rs 40 crore and deadline to complete construction work will be April 2020. The institute has planned to provide all facilities to students in hostel. About Rs 5 crore will be spent on facilities for students like necessary furniture, television, water cooler, etc. For facility of students, the institute has started lift construction in several buildings. Currently in four departments, lift facility has been already started for professors as well as students. The director has also asked to provision budget for lift facility to students in hostels. After getting final nod for all proposals, contract will be given to CPWD.
