Dreaded goon Tapan Sarkar was on Monday was brought to Durg on transit remand from Raipur Central Jail. He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in connection with 7 pending cases of extortion registered against him in various police stations of the district. After arresting him, joint team of the Kotwali and Mohan Nagar Police produced the gangster before the court in the evening hours of Monday from where he was sent back to Central Jail, Raipur, informed reliable sources.
According to information, during Inspector General of Police (IGP), Durg Range, GP Singh’s tenure, several cases of extortion against Tapan Sarkar and his aides were registered in different police stations of the Durg district. 3 offences of extortion were registered by the Durg Kotwali police while Mohan Nagar Police had also registered two separate offences against the gangster and his aides. Similarly, one offence each was registered in Supela and Chhaoni Police Stations. The arrests of all the accused except Tapan in connection with all the seven offences were already done by the police. Since Tapan was shifted to Ambikapur Central Jail from Durg Jail several months ago, the police couldn’t arrest him. Meanwhile, in between this, Tapan was reportedly brought to Raipur Central Jail from Ambikapur in connection with another offence.
Meanwhile on Monday, the Durg Police brought Tapan Sarkar to Durg from Raipur on transit remand and produced him before the court of CJM, Smita Ratnawat. Sources informed that Tapan was produced in connection with 7 pending offences of extortion registered in various police stations. The police have already produced charge-sheets in all the cases and arrest of only gangster Tapan was pending. After being produced in the court, the gangster was sent back to Raipur Central Jail.
