Govt releases only Rs 15 cr as against RTE dues of Rs 4,000 cr

AS AGAINST the reimbursement amount of Rs 4,000 crore pending against the admissions done under the RightTo Education (RTE) Act, the State Government, on Thursday, has released mere Rs 15 crore. Founder President of Maharashtra English School Trustees Association (MESTA) Sanjayrao Tayade-Patil has alleged that the amount to be reimbursed per student was too less and quota of 25% seats to be filled under the RTE also had been increased which was unjustifiable.

After enactment of the RTE Act, it became mandatory for the schools to have quota of 25% of the total seats for admissions under it. For admissions under the Act, the Government assured to pay Rs 14,000 per year for every student to the schools. Later, the amount was raised to Rs 18,000 per year per student. According to MESTA, the Government has not paid a single penny against the admissions done under the RTE Act in the academic years 2015-16, 2016- 17, 2017-18, 2018-19.

When contacted, Sanjayrao Tayade Patil told ‘The Hitavada’, “An amount of Rs 15 crore released today is not sufficient for even Nagpur city forget about the other districts. What G o v e r n m e n t Resolution says is laughable.” “There are several issues pertaining to school admissions which we brought to the notice of HRD Minister. We want TC should be made compulsory, we should get RTE refund regularly, conflicting circulars/GRs, which defeat the implementation of the RTE Act, the Government’s refusal to reimburse fees to weaker section students for pre-primary admissions etc are to be well taken care of. Secondly, we have no power to fail students if he or she does not perform,” Patil pointed out.

‘Why Govt shows disparity towards private school?’

THE amount which the Government pays to the student of its own school is much bigger than what it gives as reimbursement to private schools. Dr Sanjay Tayade Patil, President of MESTA said, “Government gives us maximum Rs 18,000 per student per year. If a school charge Rs 40,000 per student admitted not under the RTE, it still gets only Rs 18,000 against the student admitted under the RTE. Contrary to this, if the school charges Rs 5,000 then Government gives only Rs 5,000 per student under RTE. “It would compare the amount of fees charged by school and given by the Government. Whichever is less, will be given to school,” Government states.

RTE admission date extended

THE Education department is running a process of filling up online applications to get admissions in 25 per cent quota specified under the RTE. Parents are supposed to fill up the application on www.student.maharashtra.gov.in or www.rte25admission.maharashtra.gov.in. Last date for filling up the application was March 22 which has been extended to March 30. The parents are appealed to take care of certain things while filling the application. They include name of child, name of father or mother, date of birth should not be wrong, be careful while giving google location. There is an option for parents where they can delete application if they fill up wrong information. Education Officer (Primary) has urged parents to fill up the applications in a proper way else department would not be responsible for the consequences.
