Amravati Bureau,
With the official announcement from both Shiv Sena and NCP, the picture in the Amravati Lok Sabha constituency is now clear
Amravati, Mar 23 Shiv Sena has named Anand Adsul as its candidate while Congress-NCP alliance has announced name of Navneet Rana as its candidate. Navneet Rana of the Yuva Swabhimani Party will contest the election as an independent candidate supported by United Progressive Alliance. Amravati Lok Sabha Constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Caste category. Anand Adsul of Shiv Sena has been representing the constituency for last two terms and defeated Navneet Rana, who contested from the NCP, in 2014 election by a margin of 1.37 lakh votes. Anand Adsul’s candidature was expected and it was even announced by Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena Executive President, during BJP-Shiv Sena office bearers and activists convention held here at Sant Dnyaneshwar Sanskrutik Bhavan.
Adsul has also full fledged campaign. However, there was much dilemma in NCP over candidature. Despite her constant defeat, Navneet Rana kept working in the constituency keeping her defeat aside. She was trying to garner support from UPA for the ticket, which was first denied by the NCP. NCP had decided to field Dinesh Boob, Independent Corporator, but feedback during NCP’s survey and party office bearers remarks’ also were not very promising forcing the party had to rethink over his candidature. Ravi Rana, MLA, who was in constant touch with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar succeeded in convincing the party about how deserving Navneet Rana was and also succeeded in getting support from NCP to her candidature for which official announcement was made during a joint press conference of UPA on Saturday at Mumbai. The support from NCP and Congress to Navneet Rana has surprised everyone. With the official announcement from both Shiv Sena and NCP, the picture in the Amravati Lok Sabha constituency is clear now. Elections in year 2014, witnessed a triangular contest in which Gunwant Deopare contested the election as BSP candidate. Now, he is contesting election as Bahujan Vanchit Aghadi candidate. Dr Rajendra Gawai, National General Secretary of RPI (G) who had contested 2009 and 2014 election, has supported the candidature of Navneet Rana, this time. However, BSP who has also declared to contest the election is yet to declare its candidate. BSP is likely to field Arun Wankhade, former Civic Chief from Paratwada.
The enmity of Ravi Rana, husband of Navneet Rana, with most of the representatives and leaders of various parties can prove harmful to Navneet Rana. It will be interesting to see how many Congress and NCP public representatives and leaders work for her victory. Candidates have just 2 days (Monday and Tuesday) for filing nominations. Campaigning will begin only after filing of nomination. Gunwant Deopare will file his form on March 25 while Navneet Rana will file her nomination form by taking out rally on Monday.
