Central GST Deptt detects Rs 1 crore tax evasion at Moonlight Studio
IN A major exercise against the tax evaders, the team of Central Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department, Nagpur found tax evasion to the tune of Rs 1 crore on the part of the city’s renowned firm - Moonlight Studio. During the investigation being carried out against Moonlight Studio, the officers attached to the department found that one of the partners of Moonlight Studio had not taken Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration and was conducting event manage- ment programmes.
This prompted the Central GST Department to conduct investigation, sources told The Hitavada. Since the Goods and Services Tax regime came into force, registraion is mandatory for firms having annual turnover above certain limit. And thus, it was mandatory for the firm.
The investigation that began on Thursday had seen involvement of 12 officials of Central GST Department, Nagpur. Highly placed sources said that partners of the Moonlight Studio were on the radar of the team of Central Goods and Services Tax department for quite some time. Established way back in 1950, Moonlight Studio is one of the famous names in the field of photography and cameras. It is a digital camera and projector dealer of many top campanies.
