‘Vriksha Dindi’ concludes in Umred
“East Vidarbha is known as green patch of Maharashtra. However, for past few years, maximum temperature has been going beyond 47 degrees Celsius on several occasions. To counter rising temperatures, everyone needs to join hands and plant more and more trees,” said Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister. Fadnavis was addressing the gathering at a programme organised to mark conclusion of ‘Vriksha Dindi’ at Umred on Saturday. Sudhir Mungantiwar, Forest Minister; Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of district; Dr Parinay Fuke, Minister of State for Forests; Krupal Tumane, Member of Parliament from Ramtek; Vijayalaxmi Bhadoriya; President of Umred Municipal Council; Prof Anil Sole, Girish Vyas, Nago Ganar, Ramdas Ambatkar, all of them MLC; Sudhir Parwe, Umred MLA; Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Commissioner; Sanjay Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad were present prominently.
Fadnavis planted a sapling to mark the occasion. He said that State Government had surpassed the target for plantation in the past few years. This year, though the target was set at 33 crore saplings, people and agencies concerned would plant 35 crore saplings, he hoped. “As many as 80 per cent of the saplings planted survive owing to proper protection and geo-tagging,” he said. Calling tree-felling as one of the major factors responsible for ecological imbalance resulting in rise in temperature, he appealed to the people to plant more trees. He also stressed that environment-friendly development would help tide over pollution. Speaking on this occasion, Parwe put forth demands regarding several projects.
In response, Fadnavis said that these works would be completed soon. He also assured to provide funds for completion of Sessions Court building in Umred. Mungantiwar appealed to the people to join hands and achieve the target of planting 33 crore plants from July 1 to July 31. He appreciated Green Earth Organisation for taking out ‘Vriksha Dindi’ to spread awareness about plantation and motivating people for the cause. Krupal Tumane also expressed his thoughts. Earlier, Prof Anil Sole made introductory remarks. Fadnavis felicitated people doing commendable job. Also, he released anthology of poems ‘Mugdha’.
